LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUP ANTICIPATES RE-OPENING OF AIM, SEEKS INPUT FROM COMMUNITY

Following the news of an upcoming lawsuit by American Iron and Metal, seeking to quash the suspension of their Approval to Operate as a result of the fire on September 14, Saint John community group Liveable Saint John anticipates the eventual resumption of operations at the AIM scrap metal facility in the Lower West Side of Saint John.

To better understand the public impact, the community group is preparing a series of public engagement activities to gather feedback from residents, businesses, and community stakeholders. These activities include a series of online engagement sessions, a survey, and a petition.

During the month of March, three community engagement sessions held:

  1. Saturday, March 9, 3:00pm – Online Session (visit liveablesj.ca for more info)
  2. Saturday, March 16, 3:00pm – Carleton Community Centre
  3. Saturday, March 23, 2:00pm – Lancaster Mall Community Room

The objective of this public engagement activity is to produce a set of recommendations, based on public feedback, on how AIM can be better regulated by the Department of the Environment, in the interest of public health and safety.

For those who cannot attend these sessions, the public are invited to share their thoughts and experience in an online survey, or participate in the petition, available at: https://liveablesj.ca
